The garden is open to the public Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. Nearly 3000 - 5000 people visit each year, most of whom are from northern Kerala. Our garden tours include an introduction to the native flora and fauna of the Western Ghats and discussion about the importance of tropical forest bio-diversity, sustainable community, and habitat restoration. We also conduct specialist tours on request, including organic forest farming and conservation gardening. Tours are given in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, and English. Of note: almost every college and university in northern Kerala would have brought botany undergraduates and graduates here!
Over 70,000 individuals, mostly rural people, would have visited the Sanctuary, and many would have exchanged ideas and techniques to care for the land in a personal and direct way. More and more people, from across the region, now approach us for advice on land management and restoration. The Sanctuary's outreach work(including guided botanical walks, workshops, participation in seminars and giving lectures elsewhere) has engaged concerned individuals from all walks of life, botanists, ecologists, environmentalists, activists, educators, tens of thousands of students, and various "stakeholders" in the landscape (forest officials, planters, government workers and community leaders).
